Article 2- Morningside new court in Rosen Verdorn Sports Complex

After over a decade Morningside decided this was the year to add a new court and backdrop in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Complex. We went around the community of Morningside and see what all the talk around town about the new court and what people thought about it and if it is what Morningside athletics needed,

New Morningside Athletic director James Sykes first thing he decided to do was to bless the Women’s volleyball team and mens and womens basketball team with a new court with the morningside logo covering over half the court. The middle of the paint is all maroon, with the Great Plains Athletic Conference logo in the middle of it. The two baselines are maroon with one side saying Morningside and the other side says Mustangs.

To add to the new court they also decided to add a new backdrop to the sports complex with painting the walls dark grey and red stripes across the top part. It all arounds looks like a whole new place and the athletes around the new gym are loving it so far. It adds an actual Morningside look to the court because for the first time in a while the old court gave you an old high school gym vibe; now it gives you the actual college court and people around the community are starting to take notice.

Was talking to a couple freshmen on the women’s volleyball team and “love the court and think it was way better than what we saw on our visits to games last year.” The mustang volleyball team was indeed the first team to be able to play on the new court where they won their first match on the new floor.

Head men’s basketball coach Trent Miller is thrilled to see the school put some money into a new court he explains, “After using that old court for decades I think it was awesome it got a change for once. Also after looking back and seeing the success of the mens and womens team this past year it is something the players deserve.” Also got the chance to stop and asked head women’s basketball coach Jamie Sales what he thought about the new court. He explained that “I’m excited for our girls to be able to compete on this new court, and leaving the old court behind because our last game on the old court was us winning the GPAC tournament title.”

When going around Morningside campus, there was an opportunity to stop a couple of students who had been spotted at a couple of Women’s volleyball games and ask them what they thought about the new court. Morningside’s number 1 fan Chandler Todd screamed “ I love it, it makes the games more enjoyable with a brighter court.” More students who were asked the same question said they enjoy the new court a lot more than the old one.

Then we strolled around to a couple of parents on the volleyball team and thought about this new installed court. A couple of parents who are parents of a couple of freshman parents said “ it was an awesome addition to our kids and them  deciding to come to Morningside.” Then went on to ask a couple of parents who have been around Rosen Verdoorn before because their kids aren’t freshmen and ask them what they thought. “We love this new court because we all kind of thought the old court was really dirty and kind of an eye sore, and makes the team look just a tad bit better on the new court.”

From the looks of it Morningside kicked the new court out of the park because they got people talking about it and the people the court was going towards had nothing but good things to say about it. With the court just getting people playing on it for the first time this fall, the people around the community of Morningside hope this court stays around for a long time and can’t wait to watch many games played on this new court and beyond.
