Concordia out; next up DWU

by Sir Williams–The Morningside Mustangs Men’s basketball team came out victorious Wed., Feb 20, against the Concordia Bulldogs 97-74.

It was a big night for senior Brody Egger as he became the sixth player in Morningside history to accumulate 1,600 points. Junior Tyler Borchers also found himself a special spot on the all-time scoring list, moving up to No. 12.

The win put M’Side into the second round of the GPAC tournament. The Mustangs will face off against Dakota Wesleyan Feb. 23, at home at 1:00. The Tigers and Mustangs split in the regular season..

Concordia’s Carter Kent had the hot hand for the Bulldogs in the first half, but the Mustangs went into the half leading 48-44.

Coming out of half on Concordia’s first possession Kent came down and nailed a three pointer, and it looked like he wouldn’t cool down. The Mustangs defense then began slowing down the pace of the game and playing tight defense around the perimeter making it hard for the Bulldogs to shoot successfully.

The Mustangs began to feed big men Tyler Borchers and Trey Brown down in the paint. Three Mustang starters, Broddy Egger, Matt Hahn, Tyler Borchers, finished with 20 points each to lead the Mustangs to an explosive run to finish off the game winning. Kent led the Tigers with 18 points.
