By Gabi French–The women’s volleyball team had its best blocking game of the season against the 11th-ranked Northwestern Raiders. The Mustangs outblocked the Raiders 10 to 2. The Mustangs fell short 25-22, 25-17, and 25-19 in the loss.
The Mustangs were absolute brick walls Tuesday as they put up 10 team blocks and 18 block assists for their highest total in a three-set match this season. Aneisha Ford was big at the net where she led the way with a season-high eight block assists. Jayde Bergmann was next with four block assists, followed by Jenn Buyert with three block assists and Ashley Vande Stowe with one solo block and one block assist.
“They were a great offensive team; blocking them as much as we did was a great confidence booster for us. It also helps our defense out in the backrow,” Ford said.
Jenn Buyert had another big night for the Mustangs where she paced the Mustangs offensively with 12 kills. This is Buyert’s sixth time leading the Mustangs offensively. “I definitely try to listen to my back row when I go up to swing. They help me out by saying where to hit,” according to Buyert.
Morgan Gourley led the Mustangs defensive side of the game where she covered 18 digs followed by Hannah Roberg who had 12. Torie Sykes dealt 22 assists for the Mustangs. Ashley Vande Stowe and Gabi French each had an ace.
Morningside has moved to 6-15 and 2-9 in GPAC. The Mustangs next games are Saturday in Omaha against Grace University and Peru State in a triangular.
