Mustang football 2015 opened Saturday with a big 77-17 win over Sterling College in Kansas. It was the 12th consecutive win in a season opener for Coach Steve Ryan and the Mustangs.
Morningside begins its quest for its fifth consecutive league title Sept. 12 at home against Nebraska Wesleyan at 1 pm in Roberts Stadium.
Coach Ryan is upbeat about his team’s chances this year. “The boys had a good summer,” he said. A few things he felt went really well during preseason included hard practices and especially staying healthy.
“We want to go into every game full prepared, taking one game at a time is going to give the team proper time to prepare each week,” Ryan added. He also exp[ects his players will give their best each practice and game.
Losing Devon Thomas and Brandon Wegher, two great players, isn’t a scare for the Mustangs. Coach Ryan believes that Ryan Kasdorf will step-up with his experience on the field and take the lead. Ryan also expects a lot of out Tyler Kavan in filling the running back position.
On the defensive side, the Mustangs are returning three big starters: Ethan Stofferman, Luke Gibbs, and Zac Schlueger. All were All-Conference GPAC last year.
What can we expect out of the Mustangs come December? “Playing in Daytona Beach.”
