By Jordan Heim—Two Morningside College students are attending the 75th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcast System Conference in New York City. KMSC Station Manager Jenni Theisen and KMSC Disc Jockey Channing Pick will be representing Morningside College and KMSC Fusion 93 Radio. Both of them are looking forward to their upcoming trip, which will take place over Morningside College’s spring break on March 5-8.
Pick says, “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to expand my knowledge of radio while enjoying this amazing city.”
Theisen is looking forward to, “experiencing an incredible city.”
While in New York City, both want to be able to visit some of the famous sites such as Time Square, Central Park and maybe go to a New York Knicks’ basketball game. Theisen and Pick agree their visit won’t be complete without a trip on the subway.
KMSC Radio is a finalist in three categories, Best Sports Play-By-Play (basketball), Best Public Affairs Program, and Best Public Service Promotion.
Theisen was involved in the Best Sports Play-By-Play nomination with Morningside College student Paul Johnson. This nomination means a lot for Theisen who says, “I am especially proud of the (Best Sports Play-By-Play) award that I am up for. It’s an amazing step for women in the field of sports broadcasting and I am so proud to be the only female up for the award.”
Pick, who participated in the 2014 Election Night coverage which is the program up for the Best Public Affairs Program, said, “I’m proud of the election night coverage. We had so many people working together for a great broadcast.”
This is the fourth consecutive year KMSC has been nominated for national college awards. To be considered for an award, newscasts and programs must be well-written, timely, and delivered in a professional manner.
