By Darius Hicks– The Morningside Mustang softball team looks to extend their eight game winning streak Monday, when they play host to cross town rivals Briar Cliff.
The Lady Mustangs have been riding an offensive wave as of late; combining for a total of 19 runs in the last two games. Thirteen of which came against Jamestown. A game that featured a three run homerun by Kayla Salonen, a double by Alexandria Hirt, and RBI singles by both Kati Steffen and Taylor Dass. All the Morningside scoring came in five innings, due to the NAIA’s run rule.
Chemistry seems to be what’s keeping the stands on the right track, senior first basemen Michelle Brockamp who hit a single during the Jamestown game and a RBI single in the win against Northwestern had this to say. “I feel the team has really good chemistry right now and that’s why we’re playing so well. Everyone is stepping up and doing their part, we’re just focusing on one game at a time to reach our goal at the end of the season to win the conference.”
Morningside will take a 13-6 record, including a 3-0 mark in the GPAC, into a Mondays league home doubleheader against cross town rivals Briar Cliff.
