Sioux City–After spotting the College of St. Mary Flames a 19-1 lead, Morningside’s women got down to business at the NAIA Women’s Div. II Tournament.

The Mustangs (29-6) fought back to win 78-70 and set up a quarter-final contest Saturday (March 15) against Cardinal Stritch.

Morningside began its comeback five minutes into the game against St. Mary. A three-pointer by Leann Osten seemed to remove the lid from the basket, and in the next ten minutes the ‘Stangs crawled back to within a basket.

It wasn’t until the beginning of the second half they were able to draw to a tie, then pull ahead at 47-44. They never looked back, but could never put out the Flames.

Twelve Morningside players appear in the game’s box score. Osten, Ashlyn Muhl, and freshman Taylor Bahensky all scored in double figures for Morningside.
