By Amber Burg–Plants will soon be taking over the Sioux City Convention Center. From March 28th through the 30th the Sioux City Garden Show will be taking place.
Starting Friday, March 29th, doors will open at 10 am and stay open until 8 pm that night. Doors re-open Saturday at 9 am and will close at 6 pm. On Sunday doors will open at 11 am and the entire show will end that night at 5 pm.
Tickets are $5 for one day, $9 for a two-day pass and $12 for a three-day pass. Kids 12 and under are free.
The show will feature various flowers and plants, new garden and lawn ideas and educational classes.
Vendors like Bloomers Lawns & Gardens Center and Del’s Garden Center will be waiting to show guests their products, plants, and all related gardening items. Vendors will be lined up in rows waiting to show guests the new seeds of the year, unique plants and supplies to make gardens flourish.
How-To sessions and educational classes will be occurring all weekend long. Ever wanted to learn about aquaponics? Whispering Roots’s Greg Fripp will be leading educational sessions on the 30th at 11:30 am on aquaponics.
Gardening and plant education won’t be the only topic at the event. Chris Huseman of McMurray Hatchery will be speaking on the 30th at 2:30 pm about the do’s and don’ts of raising chickens. Chef Derek Lochner, owner of Sioux City’s own House of Q, will be conducting How-To sessions on making great tasting smoked meats and vegetables.
Prairie Pedlar and Unique Concrete will have booths displaying new ways to garden and landscape. Prairie Pedlar is adept in making flower and gardening displays with old wood. Unique Concrete will show guests how to make concrete into fun items that can be used as decoration throughout their yards.
