By Andrew Schnebel–This week’s Collegian Reporter athlete of the week goes to wrestler Joe Sievert.
Sievert, a senior from Akron, Iowa, was a third place finisher at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships in Topeka, Kansas. In Saturday’s consolation rounds he won three matches to arn All-American honors for the third time. He finished the season with a record of 14-2 and a career record of 98-16.
Morningside as a team had three other All-Americans while in Topeka. Tyler Lashbrook, a junior from Wellsburg, Iowa, placed sixth at 149 lbs.; Jordan Langley, a senior from Sergeant Bluff, placed seventh at 157 lbs.; and Rulin Pederson, a junior from Sioux City placed sixth at 184 lbs.
Overall the wrestling team finished the season with a 12-6 dual record and were regular season Great Plains Athletic Conference Champions.
