The MAC PAC is back and ready for this school year with fun activities and events planned for all students at Morningside.
This year’s activities will be entertaining for all who attend, thanks to the staff of four experienced MAC executives and many student volunteers. The Morningside Activities Council (MAC) is made up of President Katie Schiltz, Vice President John Harris, secretary Karrie Meyerhoff, public relations Mike Huseman, and advisor Julie Pitel.
This past spring the four executives attended NACA, the National Association for Campus Activities, where many schools come together to share new ideas and programs with one another. NACA also brings in different entertainers to help colleges get an idea of who they would like to come to their campus.
One of the big ideas the MAC PAC crew was able to take away from NACA this year was punch cards. Katie said, “We needed a new way to advertise events to the students and get the attendance up for every event.”
Another school gave MAC this idea but Katie and her team decided to add to it by promoting a chance to win a Kindle Fire at the end of the semester. With this bit of encouragement, MAC hopes to get at least 50 people at each event this year.
The big events for the month of September are a hip-hop violinist, Josh Vietti, on September 14. The other big event for September is the Wellness Week, which is September 16 through September 22. Events for that week are: The Coach of Love of the 17 outside the cafeteria; Exotic Animals, Extreme Pet Therapy on the 18 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in Yockey. On the 20 is a mini wellness challenge where you can win a water bottle. And on the 21 a hypnotist will be in Eppley at 8:00 pm.
Other events planned for the month of September is an event called Sex Signals on the 5th of the month at 8:00 pm in Yockey. On the 7th at 8:00 pm, a comedian Jessi Cambell will be in Yockey. On the 12th, tie-dying between 11:00 and 3:00. A midnight movie will be on the 15th. And of course Pack the Stand events for home football and volleyball games.
President Katie Schiltz said that she is looking most forward to Josh Vietti, the hip-hop violinist. Katie said, “I don’t care if you think violinists are stupid. This guy is the coolest thing ever. When we saw him at NACA we were all on the edge of our seats.”
If you are around September 14th, make sure to be in Eppley by 8:00 pm to see this guy!
This semester MAC has put a lot of thought into making fun activities and events for all of student body. If you find yourself looking for something to do and a MAC event is going on, head to it because chances are, you’ll enjoy it!
