By Emily Domayer ~ Saturday, Instead of sleeping in on their first day of Spring Break, approximately 13 Morningside students are heading to Alabama. Kathy Martin, Director of Church Relations, has organized a weeklong trip to Tuscumbia, Alabama to help people who were victims of last year’s tornado. The students will be painting and doing miscellaneous jobs in cooperation with a United Methodist church in Tuscumbia.
Jessica Boschen, a senior from Newman Grove, Nebraska and president of SERVE is, “looking forward to meeting people who have gone through a life-altering weather disaster.” Boschen has previous experience with this type of work. She helped out with flood cleanup last year in Dakota Dunes during the Into the Streets day of volunteering.
For Boschen, the spiritual aspect of the trip is very important. She hopes to learn a lot about herself and “why we as a group are doing what we are doing.”
Boschen is also excited about getting to know other students who are traveling to Alabama. The group will be staying at Camp Mike in Tuscumbia and will return on Sunday, March 11.
