Wrestlers win second straight GPAC title

By Andrew Schnebel–

The Mustang wrestling team wrapped up the GPAC title against Briar Cliff Wednesday night in the final duel meet of the season. They defeated the Chargers 42-3, winning nine of ten weight classes.

The Mustangs finished the dual season with a 9-6 record, including a 6-0 mark in the GPAC. This was the second straight GPAC crown for the wrestling team.

“It was our goal from the beginning of the season to win for two straight years,” sophomore wrestler Jordan Langley said. “There weren’t just ten guys, there were fourteen guys working together to win the conference title.”

Langley, along with three other Mustangs, pinned their BC opponents. Another notable victory was Brian Block, who won a 15-0 technical fall at 184 lbs.

As for next season, “there’s a lot coming back next year and we are hoping to get the title for three straight years.” Langley stated.

Morningside will host the NAIA North Region Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18. Then there is the NAIA national wrestling tournament, which will be March 1st-3rd in Des Moines, Iowa.
