“For me photography is capturing something that strikes inspiration,” was the way Brooke Spencer, president of the Morningside Photography Club, described the art of picture taking. The Photography Club is a small group of young artists here on campus, that work to portray ideas to the rest of the student body.
Recently, seven members of Photography Club traveled to New York City, where they attended DPPI and PDN, conferences about portrait and wedding photography. Attending conferences is one of the main activities the club enjoys doing. These conferences have taken them to different cities, including Las Vegas and Atlanta. They are also looking into ideas for fund-raisers to help support costs for future travel.
Other than traveling and attending conferences, Spencer said her favorite part of the club was talking about ideas for new projects. South Sioux City Public Library is showing the Photography Club’s pictures based on their versions of movies and book covers. Soon, the Morningside Library will also be featuring artwork by the club, presenting the theme “caught red-handed.”
Along with planning new projects, Brooke enjoys critiquing artwork with other members, and sharing an artistic relationship. She can rely on them to tell her what she can improve on, or if her artwork portrays what she wants it to.
Brooke encourages students to join the club and be exposed to different artistic media. Brooke said the club helps students learn to communicate with different artist, which leads to success in the art world.
Stop by and take time to appreciate the beautiful artwork on campus created by the Photography Club.
