Women’s tennis begins fall season

by Kylie Hansen–As Morningside gets back into the swing of things, athletes have been preparing for a new season. Everyone on the tennis team has been working hard, and now this week is the week to test themselves.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the women’s tennis team travelled to Buena Vista for a season–opening 9-0 victory.

Everyone seems to be excited for the coming season. Freshman Macy McDonald said she is “excited for this week” and “excited for my first college match.” She hopes to have a good game with her doubles partner, Emily Clotfelter.

On Friday, Sept. 16, the team will go to the GPAC individual tournament in Lincoln, Neb. This event will go through Friday and Saturday. Clotfelter is excited for GPAC as this is her “favorite tournament of the year.” She wants to be aggressive at the net and better her performance overall.

Everyone on the tennis team is working hard during practice to make sure they play their best game. The coaches want to have the team build a supportive culture, come out with confidence, and have everyone be excited.

Clotfelter wants to “bond as a team.” She wants everyone to get to know each other. She also wants to work on coming out of a game with confidence.

After a match against Grand View Sept 24, the Mustangs will host their first home match against Iowa Central Oct. 2.
