Morningside Mustang Track and Field traveled to Mitchell, South Dakota for the “Early Bird Invite” hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University.
With the meet being this early in the season and weather conditions, this is considered a triangular meet only containing three teams (Morningside, Dakota Wesleyan, and Briar Cliff).
The Mustangs brought a partial team containing most of the cross-country runners and some sprinters and jumpers who are ready to compete.
The Mustang women had five first place finishes from Hope Morken (60m hurdles), Taylor Sporrer (mile run), Morgan Roberts (600m run), Michelle Sanchez (800m run), women’s 4X400m relay (Michelle Sanchez, Tenna Beel, Morgan Roberts, Jenna Dirkx).
Mustang men had 3 victories from Levi Son (3,000m run), Ro Paschal (1,000m run), and 4X400m relay (Jaden Anderson, Kadyn Cline, Jared Nicholas, Ashton Verdoorn).
After running her preliminary 60m hurdle race alone, the meet officials failed to record Ms. Morkens’ time. “This happened my first indoor race last year too, it’s crazy” she expressed after catching her breath.
Morningside indoor track and field is set to compete in Sioux Center hosted by Dordt University Saturday, January 15 2022.
