by Tracie Tuttle–Betty Skewis-Arnett, Morningside theater professor and alum, is showing off her artistic talents in a new art show at Vanguarde Arts.
The show, titled “Searching,” consists of several bright and colorful paintings that show Skewis-Arnett’s evolution as an artist.
Most of her work consists of an abstract art style, making use of shape, line, and bright, contrasting colors. Some pieces stray from her usual non-representative style, however, they all create a cohesive and eye-catching environment that allows viewers to decide for themselves what each art work is about.
At the show’s reception on Thursday, October 3, Skewis-Arnett stated that each piece was created using a palette knife and either her preferred medium of oil paint or the occasional acrylic paint.
This art show is a great opportunity for students to experience and explore downtown Sioux City and to support and meet local artists.
Skewis-Arnett’s show will be up at Vangarde Arts, a small art gallery and music venue in downtown Sioux City, until the end of October. A great time to go for free is during Vangarde Arts’ Acoustic Open Mic Night at 7pm every Thursday.
