Lusch brings victory for men

by Jonathan Covert–Moritz Lusch lifted the Mustangs to a 1-0 overtime win over Northwestern Saturday, Oct. 5.

Morningside improved to 9-2 with the home win (3-1 GPAC). The Mustangs’ next home game will be Sunday, Oct. 13, hosting Presentation College of South Dakota at 3:30 pm.

The Red Raiders game was all about defense. Neither team could get anything to the net. Both teams managed three shots in the first half, but the goalies only needed one save apiece. The Mustangs committed six fouls to Northwestern’s three. The teams were scoreless at the half.

In the second half, the teams kept the action in the middle of the field. The teams combined for three shots and two saves. Regulation ended with the teams knotted 0-0.

The overtime period continued the defensive battle. But in the 99th minute, a Northwestern foul put the ball in the penalty area. Lusch made the penalty shot count, scoring his eighth goal of the season.
