Not many people can say that they have graduated with journalism as their major, was a clown for a children’s television show, was the manager at a television station, and is now the head of the Mass Communications Department at a college while teaching a variety of classes. This list of accomplishments is just that for Dave Madsen.

Every little kids dream is to be in a circus or learn how to make a bunny come out of a hat. At age eight, Madsen was given a magic kit for Christmas from his grandmother and began pursuing his dream; to discover later that his hidden talent was being a clown. Madsen worked at KMEG 14, a news channel that runs in Sioux City, Iowa. After the host of Bingo’s Big Top was let go, Madsen was asked if he would like to take the host position. He willingly agreed and that is when his clown and magic career took off.

After hosting the children’s show Bingo’s Big Top, Madsen decided that he did not want to stop clowning or doing magic. He decided to become part of a magic and clown club here in Sioux City. He loves doing comedy magic and has in fact won a few awards doing magic as a clown. He has performed at many types of events including parties and group meetings; including a special guest appearance at his own daughter’s birthday party.

Although Madsen is the head of the Mass Communications Department at Morningside College and keeps busy with teaching multiple classes, he admits that he is “too busy right now, but performed for the Morningside Alumni group a while back.” Even with the busy work load, Madsen says that he will never give up his passion for clowning or magic. He wouldn’t want to let his grandmother down.
