Read and Analyze a Press Release

• Compare the release to stories you have written in this class. How are they alike and different?

Compared to other stories I have written in this class, this press release was extremely detailed. It included a lot of data backing the research along with multiple different sections describing what needed to be told.

• Who is the audience for the release?

The audience for this release was anyone and everyone. It shared information about how the pandemic has changed the way we use healthcare. If I had to pick a specific audience I would say healthcare workers as well as readers ages 20+ would be interested in this press release.

• What is the message and purpose? Are they clearly stated?

The purpose was to inform people how healthcare has changed since the pandemic. I do not believe this has been clearly stated but it can be discovered while reading.

• What question do you have that aren’t answered?

I would like to know more about who specifically was interviewed rather than it just stating “among those interviewed.”

Did you experience a pandemic glow up? Sitting at home for days on end made many people think about what made them happy. Within this discovery people chose to physically, mentally, and spiritually work on themselves for the better. The biggest thing many people took away from the pandemic according to those interviewed in this article was how to take breaks and spend time with yourself. Make sure to take at least thirty minutes a day to do something for yourself that makes you happy.

Killer Mike Leads

While giving a speech at the 2019 Bernie Sanders rally, Killer Mike shares how he discovered everyone is going through some sort of discrimination no matter who they are.

“The time is now. The times is not in the future. The time is not some abstract time. The time is not something that might be. The time ain’t something that could be. The time ain’t nothing that should be. That would be.”

This quote stands out when speaking out about discrimination. No matter if an individual is Black, White, Gay, Straight, Male or Female, everyone needs to be treated equally in the eyes of both the community and the next president.

Scott Speech Story

“Every day I am reminded that our life’s journey is really about the people who touch us.” Stuart Scott started his speech when accepting the Jimmy V award with this powerful quote. Scott accepted this. award while battling cancer and going through treatment in a path toward recovery. He shared that he lives by the quote “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.” that Coach V would share with his athletes. No matter how small or large your battle is, it is important to stay strong and not give up. Many ventures aren’t solo ventures and are something that require great support around you.

Classmate Story with Anecdote

I am currently the assistant dance coach at a local high school where I coach alongside my best friend Jenna. Whenever one of us can not be at practice we make sure the other can in order to obviously still hold practice. Sometimes if Jenna is not at a practice and I can not get ahold of her, I have to make decisions on my own. Being my second year coaching, I sometimes struggle with coming up with the right decision or most mature decision. Recently we had two athletes not show up to a practice on a Saturday morning. We use a demerit system so normally if this happens they receive three demerits for not showing up and not letting us know. Once an athlete has hit six demerits they are required to sit out of a performance.

As their coach I was torn on whether or not to pull these two athletes from their next performance as the biggest competition of the season is coming up. As a whole would it benefit the team to follow through with consequences or would it hurt the team for their next competition. Initially, I wanted to stick to the plan of no performing, but in order to not hurt the entire team for the mistake of two athletes, I allowed them to perform leading up to the competition but once the competition is over, they will be required to make up for. the missed practices.

Adeles new album entitled “30” has been long awaited and people are raving about the new music. Adele states that this album was written for her true self and she has been completely unafraid while writing and releasing it. She wanted to celebrate the wisdom of getting older within the album. One thing that stood out in a recent interview is that her target audience for her music is 30-40 year olds unlike many artists who are currently targeting the younger generation. Matter of fact, Adele even stated that she believes younger listeners shouldn’t listen to this album as it may be a bit too deep.

Science Story

Next time you read an article, you may want to rethink the reliability before you spread the news. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently warned that not only are we dealing with a global pandemic, we are also dealing with widespread misinformation about aspects involving the pandemic. While some of these are thought to be innocent, such as dramatizing to sell vitamins or supplements, others are preventing people from getting vaccinated due to risks that have not been proven. The biggest one is the rumor that all the COVID-19 vaccines may lead to infertility. Most recently the Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers claimed he refused the vaccination due to worries about infertility. There have been no proven effects of infertility from the scientists behind any testing for the vaccine. It is actually recommended for pregnant women to get the COVID-19 vaccine because COVID-19 can cause women to deliver their babies prematurely. Thankfully the U.S Surgeon General put together a checklist in order for people to know what information is true and what is misleading. Vivek Murthy, the current Surgeon General, stated “We need people in our communities all across our country to have these conversations.”

Lead Writing #2- Gun and Park

Park:

Exciting news from the City Parks and Recreation department states that a generous donor has allowed for the purchase of a series of “educational rides” within local parks. Robert T. F. Ho, the owner of the Quick Stop Laundry on Fifth Avenue, gifted money to the department about six weeks ago in order to make this a reality. After his death two days ago, his wife stated that he felt sorry for the kids having to wait to use the equipment at the park across the street where he enjoyed watching the kids play.

$11,000 will go to the purchase and installation of these rides. Among these rides are the Hanging Gate, a ride where children will push themselves in a circle, and the SuperSlide which allows toddlers to have the thrill of sliding without the high climb. These rides will help to bring new joy to the city’s local parks.

Gun:

At approximately 8:30pm last night, there was an armed robbery at 450 Stanley Street. Two men entered the store wearing ski masks, while one held the owner at gunpoint, the other removed about $400 from the register. Although Joseph, the store owner had a gun within reach, he chose not to draw it because he felt it was safer to let the men take the money rather than his life. Almost 25 years ago in the same location, Joesphs father was found shot to death after being held at gunpoint during a robbery.

Last weekends AstroWorld Festival quickly turned into a nightmare. As of November 7th, eight people died at the festival and many others are currently hospitalized. According to Natasha, a security guard working the festival, people were coming in starting at 10 a.m. in mobs. These people were trampling over gates, pushing past security guards, and not allowing medical staff to get through to those needing medical attention. Everyone wanted to be up front so badly during Travis’s performance that they were piling into the front even when there was plenty of space around them. Lucas, an attendee of the concert, claimed he was helping multiple girls who had been shoved to the ground and were getting trampled on by others around them. Multiple fans claim that the concert should have been stopped as people began going into cardiac arrest and were dying around the festival. Madeline, a nurse that was attending the concert, was knocked unconscious by other attendees and woke up to a man beside her that was dead. Once she became aware of what was going on around her she did all she could to help as there was not proper equipment and training being used by those assisting.

Overall, I believe that this tragedy could have been prevented if people were respectful of those around them when entering and participating in an event. I am not a Travis Scott fan but after hearing about this event and him continuing his concert when there were multiple people dying I plan on never supporting him in any way. I hope that this event opens peoples eyes to prevent this from happening again.

Recently, Megan Thee Stallion graduated from Texas Souther University with a bachelors degree in health administration. In an interview, she stated that she plans to open up assisted living facilities in order to open up more opportunities for recent graduates. She states “I see a lot of my peers — a lot of people I went to high school with,” she says. “They get their degree in, like, biology and then work at Forever 21. But why? Because nobody wants to give you a job because you don’t have experience.” Her overall goal is to help people get employed directly out of college.
