Spider Bite helped Maturity

Last year Cassie McDermott went through an elbow surgery teaching her a lot about being mature.

McDermott got a bad infection in her elbow from a spider bite in the end of August only a month after moving into college. This is the first time she has moved away from home and her parents were all the way back in Colorado. She went to the hospital, and her parents showed up after the emergency had happened. Thereby, McDermott learned how to handle this type of situation by herself. The process of the infection did not stop there. Her arm was “open” the whole semester, where she had to keep the cast dry, inject her own medicine through an IV, go to weekly doctors visits etc.

This situation showed a lot of maturity and she managed not take time of school, support her team at every practice and game, and just continue her life as normal.

McDermott says, “I’m very resilient and know how to stay composed” when talking about what she got from this experience. Furthermore, she learned to stand up for herself and knows not to freak out in these types of situations now. Overall, it taught her to grow up and how to mature on your own.
