News Comment: Wisconsin Vote Recount
In the New York Times article ‘We’re Going to Get This Done’: Wisconsin Vote Recount Is Underway, the writer discusses how the state of Wisconsin and other states like Michigan and Pennsylvania are preparing to recount the votes for the election. The process is being funded by Jill Stein because she thinks that there could be a chance that the voting machines were hacked.
The recounting of votes has happened in the past but the process has never changed the outcome of an election and it seems that it will be the same in this case according to the article. Most of the people in Wisconsin just want a recount to reassure people that the voting was fair and nothing more.
The author begins the story with a scenario of the city councilmen in Wisconsin preparing to work day and night to recount all the votes. I thought that the introduction was quite intriguing and was very successful in getting people to read the article, but that was probably the most exciting thing about the article.
I feel like this topic is a hard topic to write about because most of the public would agree that the whole process is pointless. The author started out very good but lost my attention by the end. I felt like the article just kept dragging on and was a lot longer than it needed to be.
The article was well written and was probably interesting to an older audience but I failed to see the point in it. I guess we will all find out once the votes are all hand counted.
