To gain insight into why people are so drawn to iPhones, I spoke to three users from different parts of the world. I also talked to a student without an iPhone and a student who switched from Android to iPhone.

Chiara from Peru says the iPhone is a very common product in her country. She appreciates its camera quality, especially for connecting with her family through Facetime.

Serenity is from the area and favors iPhones over Samsung. She emphasized how reliable it is and how the camera quality is superior to Samsung.

Jessica from Africa made the switch to iPhones due to how popular they got in her country. She now receives a new iPhone every two years.

I talked to Santi from Venezuela who has an Android and appreciates how easy it is to use. He also talked about the price difference and how it’s not as popular in his country.

Last I talked to Erik from the area. He recently switched to an iPhone from Android. He made the switch because of all the jokes he was getting from his phones. The jokes were mainly about the camera quality and how bad it is.

Morningside News Analysis

December 5, 2023

The article I chose is about Morningside University’s Choir. On Tuesday, November 14th Morningside’s Choir received the top honor for a small program. Since they won The American prize the choir will receive a physical award and a financial award as well.

I think this is newsworthy as a student at Morningside it’s good to keep up with what’s happening around campus. This is news for the Morningside community. It updates us on the choir and how great they are doing this year. In the article it states that The American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions is the nation’s most comprehensive series of contest in the performing arts. This organization recognizes the best performing artists and directors. I think its important for us to recognize the choir as they don’t get much recognition.

Readers will gain knowledge on the Morningside choir and their accomplishments.

Morningside could gain more students in the choir department. They could also gain more fans as the choir department has some events coming up like Christmas at Morningside.

ChatGPT Provides Inaccurate Responses to Drug Questions

American Society of Health-System has flagged concerns about ChatGBT. They are concerned that the AI program is providing inaccurate drug information. 75% of responses were incomplete or wrong with fake citations when asked for references.

While comparing it to our class writings there are a few things that stand out. Our usual writings are a little less formal and usually don’t have as much background information about companies or events. This article mentioned the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists which provided more information.

This article incorporated an interactive element to provide the reader with more engagement. Both writing styles provide the purpose of conveying critical information to their audience.

Partner Story

November 27, 2023

Today I got to interview my table partner Isabel. She told me that the word that best describes her is impatient. One of the reasons she chose impatient is because she does not like to wait for people. She is also very strict when it comes to being on time. Isabel’s time is precious and she stated “She does not have time to waste”. When it comes to soccer she dislikes it when people are repetitive. What bothers Isabel the most is when she driving and the light is red for a long time.

Science Story

November 2, 2023

In a massive laboratory beneath the University of Arizona’s football stadium, a high-tech furnace was working its magic. This furnace, resembling a spinning saucer, had reached a scorching 1165°C. Inside it, 17,500 kilograms of special glass had melted, and it would soon become a colossal mirror.

This mirror was the last of seven needed for the Giant Magellan Telescope, set to become the world’s most powerful optical instrument. The telescope, located on a Chilean mountaintop, featured seven primary mirrors shaped like a flower. These mirrors acted as one, capturing light with image quality four times better than our best space telescopes.

What made this telescope unique was its ability to study cool, Earth-like exoplanets in detail. Unlike the James Webb Space Telescope, it focused on optical and near-infrared light – wavelengths important for identifying signs of life.

The telescope was named after Ferdinand Magellan, the explorer who circumnavigated the globe. Some wanted to change its name due to Magellan’s controversial actions, but no decision had been made.

Creating these mirrors was a long and precise process. They started with a glass furnace, then molded the melted glass into a unique structure. After extensive cooling, they polished it for two years until it was incredibly smooth.

A final coat of aluminum, great for reflecting visible light, would enable the telescope to potentially spot alien worlds.

This telescope held the promise of finding distant, Earth-like planets and signs of extraterrestrial life. As its completion neared, it offered hope for unlocking the universe’s mysteries.

A severe gas explosion and building collapse in Wappingers Falls, New York, left 15 people injured on November 2, 2023.

The explosion happened during what was supposed to be routine maintenance, leading to a gas line rupture and a massive blast. Among the injured, there were five first responders, including a firefighter and four police officers, as well as eight adults and two children, according to Wappingers Falls Police Commissioner Paul Italiano.

Rescue teams worked hard to free those trapped under the collapsed building and rushed them to nearby hospitals. As of Thursday evening, all the injured individuals remained in the hospital, with some having critical burn injuries.

The building that collapsed had been part of the Wappingers Falls community for about 80 to 90 years and had four apartments in a row.

Central Hudson Gas & Electric, responsible for the ruptured gas line, is cooperating with the Red Cross to help those who were displaced by the explosion.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul responded to the incident by sending emergency services personnel to assist. She urged New Yorkers to follow the instructions of law enforcement and first responders and offered her thoughts and prayers to the Village of Wappingers Falls.

Wappingers Falls, which is approximately 60 miles north of Yonkers, is now dealing with the aftermath of this tragic event, as the community comes together to support the injured and those affected by the explosion.

Española, New Mexico – Tensions flared during a protest the reinstallation of a statue honoring the controversial Spanish conqueror, Juan de Oñate, as a man was shot in Española, New Mexico. This incident has once again underscored the ongoing debate over the commemoration of historical figures with questionable pasts and the impact of their statues on communities.

Originally, local officials in Española had planned to re-erect the statue of Juan de Oñate, but those plans were abruptly canceled due to concerns about safety. However, even with the cancellation, protesters remained present, and the situation escalated into violence.

The alleged shooter, 23-year-old Ryan Martinez, is now in custody, facing serious charges after reportedly shooting an individual during the confrontation. The injured victim was swiftly transported to an Albuquerque hospital, though the extent of their injuries remains undisclosed as an ongoing police investigation delves into the incident.

Juan de Oñate’s statue had been removed in 2020, primarily due to his involvement in a tragic event in which numerous indigenous people lost their lives. His actions included the gruesome act of severing the feet of survivors and selling others into slavery. Subsequently, he faced legal consequences for the excessive force used and was banished from New Mexico. The statue’s restoration has since been a subject of intense controversy, reflecting the deep-seated emotions it stirs in the community.

Despite the controversy, county officials decided to relocate the statue to a new site in Española, prominently in front of a county building. The ceremony for the statue’s reinstallation was originally scheduled for Thursday but was postponed, citing safety concerns. Nevertheless, a group of protesters congregated at the site, unequivocally expressing their opposition to the statue’s return.

Video footage captured the moment preceding the shooting, where a brawl erupted among individuals, culminating in one man brandishing a firearm. The root cause of the altercation remains uncertain currently. An eyewitness reported that the alleged shooter fled the scene in a vehicle, with someone tailing him.

It is worth noting that the local sheriff had openly voiced his disagreement with the decision to relocate the statue, addressing county commissioners with a letter in which he argued that the timing was inappropriate. Two commissioners heeded his concerns and decided to halt the statue’s reinstallation on Thursday, recognizing the complex nature of the situation.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of how statues of controversial historical figures can polarize communities and ignite passionate debates about the symbols and narratives that shape our shared history. It raises questions about the role of public monuments in contemporary society and the delicate balance between preserving historical legacies and acknowledging the pain and trauma associated with them.

Española, New Mexico — A man was shot during a protest in Española, New Mexico, against the reinstallation of a statue honoring a controversial Spanish conqueror, Juan de Oñate. The protest turned violent, leading to an arrest.

Officials in Española planned to put the statue of Juan de Oñate back, but they canceled the event due to safety worries. However, protesters were still there, and a fight broke out.

A 23-year-old man, Ryan Martinez, is accused of shooting someone during this fight. He was arrested by the New Mexico State Police and now faces serious charges.

The injured man was taken to an Albuquerque hospital, but we don’t know how he’s doing. The police are looking into the shooting.

Juan de Oñate’s statue was removed in 2020 because he was involved in a terrible event where many indigenous people were killed. He also cut off the feet of some survivors and sold others as slaves. Later, he was found guilty of using too much force and was banned from New Mexico. People have strong feelings about his statue.

Despite the controversy, county officials decided to put the statue back in a new location in Española, in front of a county building.

The ceremony to put the statue back was supposed to happen on Thursday, but it was delayed because of safety concerns. Still, some protesters came to the site to show they didn’t want the statue reinstalled.

A video shows a fight before the shooting, and a man escapes from others and points a gun at them. We don’t know why the fight started.

A witness said the shooter drove away in a car, with someone following him.

The sheriff disagreed with moving the statue and wrote a letter to county commissioners, saying it wasn’t the right time to do it. He thanked two commissioners who decided to stop the statue’s installation on Thursday, recognizing the difficult situation.

This incident shows how statues of controversial figures can divide communities and spark debates about our history and its symbols
