For this assignment I chose to read an article from ARTFORUM and analyze the articles lead. The first paragraph and lead discusses the main character of the article first, Warren B. Kanders. Kanders in on the board of an art museum and the lead talks about how wealthy he is and how much of that wealth he is distributed to the museum. Then the lead takes a blunt turn and says “now lets talk about the tear gas” and breaks off into a new paragraph discussing what tear gas is, the definition, and usage of it. I think this lead does follow the basic SUBJECT-VERB-TWIST method. The subject is Kanders, the action happening is the money he spends and donations he gives to the art community and museums, lastly it takes an interesting twist and introduces tear gas.

If I were to create a separate lead for this article I would maybe start with the tear gas and then introduce the main character because I was not a huge fan of the structure used for this particular story.
