Story 2
Morningside football is halfway through their season with an undefeated record. Students, faculty, and community members have been supportive of the Mustangs as they have in previous seasons.
The team success comes from their head coach Steve Ryan and the way he prepared the team and keep his players close and aligned. The football team hasn’t lost a regular season game in 12 years. The dedication, family environment, and brotherly love that the mustangs football shows each other on and off the field is what makes them so great.
The mustangs are known for their violence, relentlessness, and execution on the football field. However, talking to some students around campus the mustangs started off their first couple games slower than usually.
Taryn Davidson is a junior at Morningside. Freshman year, Taryn took videos for the football team and she loved it. Taryn said, “Taking the videos for the football team gave me the confidences knowing that I want to work for a Big 10 team after college.” She loves watching the football team play she noticed the football team started a couple games of slow but eventually they pick it up after halftime and gives us the show that we are use to seeing.
There is a big differences from the Football team this year and the team from last year Taryn said. However, she also said “The team last year wouldn’t start off slow strictly because it was a lot of 5th and 6th year seniors on the team that was already use to the mustangs systems and that’s what made them so good.
Taryn loves watching the games because she enjoy watching her favorite players on the team play. Dijion Walls, Jalen Portis, and Caleb Schweigart?
When asked what players she felt like make the most impact on the field, Taryn answered with, “I think Austin Johnson, Joe Dolincheck, Dijion Walls, and Jalen Portis. They definitely make the most key plays.”
Morningside football supporters such as Taryn are part of what makes the game day atmosphere as impressive as it is. Along with Taryn, many community members enjoy everything the Mustangs bring to the table.
Jamal Jones, senior at Morningside University have been on the team since his freshmen year. He also been apart of the national championship team the last 3 of 4 years that they have attended and won.
Jamal said “The players is what makes this team special, from grinding all summer and working to get to the position that they get themselves into.” He also said “We have a great coaching staff a coaching staff that knowns how to win and get their players ready and prepared for anything that comes our way.”
Jamal tore his acl in fall camp and been sitting out and recovering from it, Jamal loves this team and he will do anything to get back on that field with the team. He knows that him playing will help the team reach that national championship game again.
Jamal finished off saying that he love his teammates and his coaching and him being able to play again in the playoffs is a big risk but if the teams needs me I will be there for them.
