News Comment #5 – Touring Storm Damage in the Carolinas, Trump Follows His Own Script

Posted at 8:37 pm under Uncategorized

This article leads the reader in to not only the situation very well, but also the mind of the President. The article tries to take a look at how the President views the situation going on with the storm in the Carolinas. It shows how he is viewing the situation and that is a very cool insight that is pretty valuable to a news article to give it a different taste.

One of the obvious news values that takes place in this story is the value of prominence. Donald Trump as President is a very prominent figure making news in lieu of a horrible storm that has changed people’s lives. Him showing up anywhere like that is news, let alone his actions once he shows up at a certain area. Him being the President and the way he handles himself once he gets to an area of rebuilding makes the news anytime.

Another news value this falls under is the value of relevance and currency. With the storm just taking place it falls into this news value because of the fact of how devastating the storm was for many people. As shown in the picture and writing a boat was in the back of this man’s house and that shows in and of itself how devastating a storm like this is.

It’s almost a feature lead; it delys the actual news “payoff” to the fourth graf. I would call this a “color” piece in that it relies on description to put the reader in the scene. It’s not exactly objective either.
