What’s different about a November Masters?

The 2020 Masters golf tournament will be the first golf major held in the fall, when it’s usually in the spring.

The Masters is arguably the most famous golf tournament to be played, and an honor to win the covenant green jacket. The tournament is played at world famous Augusta National Golf course. Augusta is a strong and powerful course, but COVID had other ideas for the tournament that was supposed to be played in April.

Just like every other sport, golf had some schedule changes and didn’t continue play until late this summer. Tournaments were pushed back and one of those tournaments was the Masters, the most anticipated tournament in the PGA.

The Masters plans to have a spectator-free crowd, so no fans. Just camera men, commentators and tournament officials are allowed on the course during playing rounds. This is a very different atmosphere compared to other tournaments where fans are allowed.

The crowds are usually huge for the masters, as it is the most anticipated tournament of the year. The huge crowds cause huge roars and boost the players in key moments. It will be a huge change for golfers to not have fans watching and cheering them on during play.

Even with no fans, other golfers have noticed an increase in player performance with no fans. Tiger woods said in an interview last night that, “players are making more birdies with no crowd. It’s pretty crazy to see the relationship with golf and the crowd in performance standards.”

The weather also has an affect on the golfers and this specific golf course. Golf is the most affected sport when it comes to weather and performance. They are directly related and playing this course in the fall is such different than the spring.

Golfers like Bryson Dechambeu, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka are the favorites heading into Thursdays starting round. Tiger is in the tournament, don’t count him out.
