Secret Service Recovers $286 Million in Stolen Covid-19 Relief Funds – News Article #3

The Secret Service says they recovered $286 million of stolen Covid-19 relief funds from imposters who used fake identifications to qualify for aid.

There was 15,000 scam accounts used. According to Otis at Wall Street Journal, the Secret Service has initiated more than 3,850 pandemic related fraud investigations. Since 2020, the Secret Service has recovered $1.4 billion in fraudulently obtained funds.

This is news to me because it is bizarre. As a business owner, I could have been potentially able to receive Covid-19 funds. Seeing people fraudulently obtain large amounts of money is absurd. It is not every day you hear about lump sums of $200+ million being stolen and now recovered.

This article is an objective article. It does not pick a side and allows the reader to make up their own mind. It only states facts and does not use any opinion or expression.
