Victory in Newton

The Morningside golf team has successfully made it too Newton, Kansas for a golf tournament at Sand Creek Station golf course. This will be the first tournament that the Mustangs play in ever since COVID-19 hit back in April.

Morningside played Tuesday and Wednesday with the top 5 being Sam Storey, Corey Matthey, Jonny Douglas, Xan Mullagian, and Jackson Sitzman. Lead by coach Tod Sapp.

Sapp and his team look to pick things up right where they left off last time they were in Kansas they took 2nd in the tournament only losing by 4 strokes. This time he hopes to win. “The boys worked hard this offseason and now we got to translate it on the course.” Sapp said.

Last year the boys mustang golf team finished at rank 13th in the NAIA. Sapp intends to keep this status up with a lot go good new recruits. Most of them being outside of the U.S. Paul Henry is a freshman from Germany, James Thomas is from Australia, and Haricio Garcia is from Mexico.

With all this diversity and different cultures on the team is is truly rare and unique to be playing with people who are from all over the world. “They bring a different energy to the table that you just don’t quite get with American golfers” senior caption Sam Knight said.

Sand Creek Station is a fun yet difficult course. It can be stretched out meaning it can play longer if the tees were put in the way back. Its beautiful during the summer but playing in the winter is always hard especially if they make it long.

Sam Storey is a junior at Morningside and he is #1 on the golf team. He won this tournament and after winning this is what he said “I just had to stay focused and dedicated and keep my confidence, once I did that I ended up with the win.” This is the first win of the season for sam but number 4 in his career at Morningside.

The team won by 5 strokes and started the season off with a statement. “This is the best team Morningside has ever seen, and we are just getting started!”-Sam Storey.

The Morningside Mustangs are ranked 3rd in the NAIA which is the highest the boys have ever been ranked in golf. “It takes dedication and hard work, each day we are out here practicing and each day we are trying to make our selves better” – Tanner H. Senior. This tournament that was won in newton is only the beginning and first step of a very successful year.

Morningside has a very solid team and the sky is the limit for this team. They got all the potential to make it too nationals and maybe even winning. But that is a long way to go and a lot more tournaments to win. Winning in Newton proves that we are not only a good team in our devision but a good team against those around us. Hard work and teamwork is what makes this team so successful and it is what holds us together in the end. The mustang golf team is a family, we win as a team and we lose as a team.

It’s a Bird, It’s a plane, It’s a… Man flying a jetpack?

Weird turn of events after an American Airlines plane was on its way down too LAX the pilots saw a man flying a jetpack at 3,000 feet up in the air.

The pilot reported that the aircraft was approximately 30 yards away from the flying man. “Tower. American 1997. We just passed a guy on a jetpack,” the first plane called in. “Off the left side maybe 300 — 30 yards or so. About our altitude.” One of the pilots said.

Shortly after the first aircraft saw this man another one did as well in the same spot where he was spotted last time.

FBI is looking into this but came up with nothing so far. Local law enforcement is working on this matter too.

South Iowa Patrol Bans Hand Held Radar Guns Due To Radiation Exposure

South Iowa Highway patrol decided yesterday that 70 “hand held radar guns” will be withdrawn from the Highway patrol. Research says that these hand held radar guns are exposing cops to radiation that can cause long term cancer.

Adam Smith was the spokesman for this situation, “The feeling here is to err on the side of caution until more is known about the issue,” Smith said. “The whole situation is under review.”

State troopers will continue to use radar units with transmitters mounted on the outside of their cruisers.

A Chat With Chance

I had the opportunity to sit down (over zoom) and talk to Chance Jenson. Chance is a Junior at Morningside and likes to take journalism classes because he likes writing and putting in the effort to make the news good. In his early days of high school he was an all star hockey player and played in a tournament where he was the fastest player there. This is really tough because people were racing on skates. Chance likes to hang out with friends and play rocket league in his free time. He got really good at the game and can almost beat anyone that dares to challenge him. Chance is a really good guy and if you ever get the chance to meet him count yourself lucky.

Bucks Boycott Game 5!

Milwaukee’s walk out of game five against the magic was an act of protest for the movement Black Lives Matter (BLM) in response to the shooting of a man named Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Shortly after the bucks protest it turned into a domino effect and made the Rockets and Thunder game not to be played as well. This also lead to the Lakers and Trail Blazers to not play so no playoff game was played Wednesday.

The bucks owner Marc Lasry said “We fully support our players and the decision they made. although we did not know beforehand, we would have wholeheartedly agreed with them. The only way to bring about the changes is to shine a light on the racial injustices that are happening in front of us. Our players have done that and we will continue to stand alongside them and demand accountability and change.”

People around seem to be divided about if this protest works or not. Let me know your opinion if you think this was a good idea for the players or not.
