How Travis Scott Defied the Rules of Celebrity to Become King of the Youth

The entire feature, which is trying to paint a really large picture of the private and creative life of Travis Scott, is split into these different sections that make Scott. There is a kebob structure that flow the two day interview chunked with events that happened months or years ago. A reader could easily skip to section if they wanted a certain part of Scott’s life, like his decision to pursue music or how he got into fashion, if they wanted to focus on an aspect about him. In each part of the article, there is some type of complication that talks about how Scott overcame or the personal projects he’s working on that gives insight. The structure hops around with highlights about him and doesn’t start with his beginnings until halfway through.

Travis Scott is the main character of this narrative, but author becomes a character due to his presence made known with the interactions between them and sharing his thoughts. All of the details that Gerrick Kennedy, the writer, does gives you a picture about what it would be like to be alone in the room with Travis Scott. A reader can get a sense of the off the walls energy Scott has personally and with his projects, how the environment speaks about him as a person, and sharing the unfiltered quotes. Kennedy does a good job giving a sense about the character by describing how Travis Scott reacts to questions or the time between questions, like chuckling or lighting a blunt.

I think the main theme and the about of the feature is just showing the qualities of Travis Scott that people like about him and what sets him a part. Writing about the Travis Scott concert hosted through Fortnite and the experience with his concerts highlights what makes him different. But telling of his experiences going through life and his pursuit to improve his hometown gives you, especially if you had no clue who he is, a sense of what people like about him.

I do believe that the story is true just due to watching the documentary about Travis Scott that was released last year. I think if people just did any research on him would find that he talks, acts, and the events happened exactly like how the article the describes. There is no invention of fiction with this article, just reporting of what happened.

As Daniel would say, I skimmed. For GQ this is a focused piece. The writer does not make himself into a character.

What’s weird is that he covers a lot of ground, but I don’t see any sources other than Scott. That generally means Kennedy and Scott were pretty close for a long time. And Scott was willing to share lots of personal info. They established a bond.
