Photo Club is a small group that has not been on campus long but is slowly gaining numbers. Photo Club gives Morningside photographers opportunities to build on their experience and branch out.

This year Photo Club plans on taking a trip to Oregon in November and attending the Society for Photographic Education Conference (SPE) held in Lincoln, Nebraska. Other conferences trips are up for the discussion by the group for Spring Break. The club is currently preparing for the upcoming photo competition at Clay County Fair. They are also thinking about hosting another paint fight fundraiser this year.

Last year, members had the chance to put a photo on display in the Morningside Learning Center and in the Sioux City library. Nicole Loe, a member of Photo Club and a Sophomore at Morningside, says “It was a Wonderful experience and cool seeing it on a wall.” She had two photos on display on campus and one off campus. The club also attended the SPE Conference in Chicago over Spring Break and made a trip to Oregon over Fall Break.“One of the reasons I chose Morningside is because of their photo department, Photo Club, and it offered photography as a major which is not something most schools do,” said Nicole.

At Photo Club meetings, group critics and feedback on photos can be received and given. They also vote and decide what upcoming events they should attend or hold. The first meeting of the year is September 11, 2013. Any student can be involved, it is not just for photography majors.
