Food Review – Golden Bowl

By Meghanne Adams–

If you’re in the mood for Chinese food, Sioux City has limited options. Let’s face it; it just isn’t a Chinese food hot spot. Contrary to the limitations of the area, a little unknown restaurant close to downtown proves to have an authentic taste, more than reasonable prices and a laid back environment.

The Golden Bowl is located at 1408 Hamilton Boulevard. They are closed on Mondays, but Tuesday through Saturday they are open 11:00 A.M. to – 9:00 P.M. and Sundays 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. for you to dine in or call for take-out. The restaurant itself is easy to miss because it is tucked into a strip mall on a street that is torn up with construction, but I encourage you to find it and try it out.

The pricing is about the same as you would expect at a mall food court, but you are getting so much more for your money with quality and quantity. Unless you’re lucky enough to get to the mall right when they bring out the food, you’re more than likely to be underwhelmed with the flavor of the food and the temperature it is served at.

The Golden Bowl, on the other hand, is flavorful and has 62 options on the menu. Single person meals are between 5 and 6 dollars, and family portions are between 7 and 10 dollars. Also contrary to the Chinese food you would find at the mall, it doesn’t have a processed, phony taste to it.

If you’re in the mood for dining at home, call for take-out at (712)-277-1660. They usually have orders ready in 15-20 minutes.
