Students Stand Against Sex Trafficking

Stand Against Sex Trafficking(04.19.2017) By Kayla Perkins — Morningside’s students are standing in solidarity for 24 hours for the estimated 4.5 million victims of sex trafficking.

While most students prefer to stay inside on rainy days, other students are outside taking part in a 24-hour stand against human sex trafficking on the iconic “M” in the middle of campus.

“We’re doing a 24 hour stand against sex trafficking, to show our support against it. If you’re able to join us, we’d be happy to have you,” says student Bradley Davis.

During the stand students are encouraging others to join, or if unable to, to accept a blue “X” on their hands to show support for the cause.

Aside from individuals, campus groups such as Gender Undone will also be taking part in the stand.

“Gender Undone has a spot held from 3pm to 4pm today (4/19) in which we will stand on the M as a group,” says student Sarah Jackson, who is a member of the group.

Alongside the stand, the campus library has also set up information on the first floor by the Spoonholder, showing visuals and statistics of the effects sex trafficking has on people and their families. Students are encouraged to browse and explore the information that is being displayed.

Morningside College’s students over the years have been known to stand up for what they believe in, rallying protests and stands against various issues. Today’s students are no different, coming together as individuals and groups to support this cause.

If you accept an “X” make sure to share it on Twitter or Instagram under “#msidestand” to share the message and support against human sex trafficking.
