Check out life with the door open

By Diane Nguyen–I’m not going to be the first person to say this, in the most blunt way possible, but adult life sucks. You have to pay bills, buy food, find the energy to cook the food, and then eat it. Along with juggling a job and schoolwork.

Not to mention the social life you have to keep. That way no one goes insane from not talking to you and you don’t go insane from all the loneliness of trying to balance your sleep schedule and urge to binge watch Netflix!

The thing is, though, you know that there are things that need to be done, besides sleeping and Netflix. Yet you can’t find yourself willing to start whatever it is you’re putting off. Do you sometimes find yourself wanting to do something mindless? Try changing the space you live in a little bit.

This way it saves you from the stress of not doing your homework because you are improving your mental health by giving yourself something else to look at besides the absolute normal.

Something simple you can start off with is to work with the door open. This makes the room look bigger and if you work with the door closed most of the time this will just be a simple change of scenery.

If you can’t work with the door open but would like to change some things put up some motivational quotes that you like, just to remind you why you’ve been going on this long or the reason why you are studying.

Want to add more color? Try adding a plant to your living space. Succulents take zero-time to take care of, just make sure it has some sunlight. If you believe you still can’t take care of a succulent, getting a fake plant will still add that touch of green a succulent would’ve added.

I, myself, cannot stand plants. So if plants just aren’t your thing and you find yourself sad. Want something to laugh at? Try adding googly eyes to everything! Time-consuming, yes. But it is well worth it in the end just to take a breather on homework, look up, and see a computer with eyes starring at you. Happiness.

Another thing you can do is stick decals on something. It’s not permanent so you don’t have to worry about what is going to look different to be permanently changed. This little difference will create a different picture of an item in your room.

Want something more permanent, but doesn’t require MAJOR art skills? Just repaint the legs of a chair a brighter color. By adding a pop of color into the room this will calm you because you did something different from your normal every day routine.

If you are unsure as to what color you want to paint it, just spray it silver. It’s light enough to be painted over and neutral enough to match whatever you have in your house/room.

Just remember when the going gets tough and you are stressed out, grab a camera. Take that as a reminder that there is so much more to this life then what you currently living. After every bump things will change. Don’t get bogged down, go take an adventure.
