Mustangs go to 3-0; Whitewater up next

By Gabi French–
Connor Niles might have had his biggest collegiate career game against Dordt Saturday, September 19, as the Mustangs shut out the Defenders 49-0 to improve their record to 3-0.

Morningside could move into the number one spot after No. 1 Marian’s loss on Saturday.

Niles had four of the seven Mustang touchdowns. Niles received three of the four touchdown passes from veteran Ryan Kasdorf and returned a 60-yard punt return for another. Niles finished with six pass receptions to reach a career-high 172 yards.

Kasdorf completed 11 of 16 for over 200 yards and four touchdowns, which put him three short of the Morningside record. Tyler Kavan, Briar Evans, and Austin Ebertowski had the three remaining touchdowns for the Mustangs.

The Mustang defense pitched a shutout. Christain Walker blocked a Dordt field goal attempt in the first half. Zac Schleuger led the defense with 13 tackles, eight of them being solo stops. Ethan Stofferman was next for the defense with eight tackles, five solo. Stofferman and Chase Reis combined for a quarterback sack where they dropped the Defenders quarterback Seaman for a 10-yard loss in the first half.

The Mustangs’ next game might be the biggest of the season. They face off against Wisconsin-Whitewater, the number one team in NCAA DIII football standings, in a Thursday night contest.

Wisconsin–Whitewater is on a 34-game winning streak for the longest winning streak in the nation and they have won the last six of eight national titles for NCAA Division III.
