Winterizing your Netflix Account

still_sledBy Katie Copple– The holiday season is here, which means it’s time for Christmas movies galore! Below are some of my favorites to help you winterize your Netflix account and get the most out of your viewing habits this holiday season.

Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed In 2000    4.5 stars
After being snowed in, Mickey and a host of his friends throw a Christmas party to help Donald Duck regain his holiday spirit.

Who doesn’t need a little Mickey in their lives? Get in the Christmas spirit with this Disney classic. This one will take you back to your childhood for sure.

Christmas with the Kranks            2004    4.5 stars          Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen
When Luther Krank and his wife opt to skip Christmas — no tree and no rooftop Frosty. Can they handle the fallout from their family and neighbors?

Curtis and Allen star in this hilarious Christmas-gone-wrong movie after they decide to pass on the neighborhood Christmas festivities. That is, until they realize their daughter is coming home. You’ll be laughing until the end on this one!

Holiday in Handcuffs   2007                4.1 stars      Melissa Joan Hart and Mario Lopez
Unexpectedly single just before the holidays, an aspiring artist kidnaps a handsome stranger to introduce to her family as her new boyfriend.

Melissa Joan Hart, from the iconic show Sabrina the Teenage Witch, stars in this comedy. This is a great one to watch with your roommate with a glass of hot chocolate in hand.

Love Actually            2003                4 stars      A Handful of Stars
This ensemble comedy is a charming treatise on romance, telling 10 intertwining London love stories, leading up to a climax on Christmas Eve.

This is one of those movies where there are so many plots and characters that intertwine that it’s almost hard to follow. Almost. This one will keep you glued to the screen until the very end!

Ernest Saves Christmas      1988                4 stars             Jim Varney
When Santa Claus decides to retire and pass on his magic bag of Christmas surprises to a new St. Nick, a perky teen runaway and hapless taxi driver Ernest P. Worrell must convince a skeptical kids-show host to take over the post of Father Christmas.

This is a classic from 1988 and a great one to watch with your entire family. Make this one of your new holiday favorites. Curl up with a fluffy blanket and enjoy!

Bad Santa      2003                3 stars             Billy Bob Thornton and Lauren Graham
Criminals Willie and Marcus disguise themselves as Santa Claus and an elf and find work at major department stores with plans of robbing them blind.

As the title entails, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill Christmas movie. Bad Santa is just that: bad. It’s so bad that it’s good. With Gilmore Girls’ Lauren Graham starring alongside the slightly creepy Billy Bob Thornton, this one will definitely get you through finals week.

The Legend of Frosty the Snowman            2005    4 stars             Burt Reynolds
The mayor of Evergreen dismisses magic as nonsense, but when Frosty the Snowman blows through town, he shows the local children that magic is real.

It’s the standard Christmas tale brought to life in this 2005 classic. Relive the magic of Frosty the Snowman with Burt Reynolds and bring back all of those glorious childhood memories.

The Search for Santa Paws 2010    3.5 stars
In this prequel to Disney’s holiday hit Santa Buddies, it’s up to puppy Paws to save the spirit of Christmas when Santa’s memory fades.

One of the newer Disney movies, Santa Paws has a 100% cuteness factor. Grab your roommate and sit down for a night filled with “ooo’s” and “awe’s” watching a handful of fuzzy puppies try to save Christmas.

Santa Baby 2             2009                3.5 stars          Jenny McCarthy
Jenny McCarthy reprises her role as Santa Claus’s daughter in this festive sequel. When Santa wearies of his job, he taps her as his successor.

Unfortunately Netflix doesn’t have the first Santa Baby movie but this one is just as good! Jenny McCarthy brings all of her spontaneity back into this movie and it’s one of her best roles to date.

Happy Holidays from Madagascar
Madagascar goes wild with holiday spirit in this set of Valentine’s Day and Christmas-themed tales featuring everyone’s favorite animal characters.

The friends from Madagascar reunite for these three shorts that are sure to bring out the child in anyone.

Holidaze        2013                4.5 stars          Jennie Garth and Cameron Mathison
Melody Gerard, a high-powered corporate executive, is in for an unpleasant surprise when she takes a spill and wakes up in an alternate universe.

The newest movie on this Christmas list; Jennie Garth and Cameron Mathison star in this romantic comedy that will keep you entertained until the very end. Grab your significant other, or a large cup of hot chocolate and cuddle up for this one because you will want to watch this one over and over again.
