By Natalie Waller– The end of the school year is upon all college students. Classes are ending and finals are beginning. Some might feel like the end is too close for comfort and the stress is taking over.
There are a few easy ways to relieve this stress though. Going into a huge test with anxiety and stress will not help you focus or be capable of doing your best. Prepare for the test and follow these easy stress relief steps and finals will be over before you know it.
The first thing you can do is, think positive. School is almost over and summer is approaching. There is only a few assignments, tests, or projects that stand in between you and a few months of class-free life. This test is only one of most likely a lot that you have taken for the course. You made it through those and you will make it through this test as well. If you have negative thoughts about a test it will only lead to you not being focused and might even roll over into other life situations. Take a deep breath and remember, it’s almost over with, just keep going.
Second, take a break and do one of many stress-relieving activities. Taking deep breaths is a great place to start. Oxygen will help you ease anxiety and clear your mind for a while. You could also go for a walk. This is a simple activity that will get you outside with some fresh air and is also some easy exercise. Another idea is go get your favorite snack. Have something to eat to keep you going. If it is a treat, think of it as a reward for all the hard work you are doing.
Another important task for dealing with stress is making sure you have daily relaxation. Your body and mind both need to take a break and relax for a while. If you do not relax your body will not rest at night and you will not get the good night of sleep that you need in order to perform at your best. Try sitting down to watch some TV, doing yoga, or reading a book. Try to have some time where you don’t think about the test or whatever it may be that is causing you to stress.
The last option you could try is reward yourself. Everyone has an activity, food, or drink that they love. Once you have studied or worked for a good amount of time, reward yourself for the hard work. The work you are doing is not for fun, so do something that is fun afterwards.
Most importantly remember that the end is near. The hard work and time will pay off. People should not let stress keep them from doing the best they can. Follow one or all of the options above to make life a bit less crazy, do the best that you can, and everything will work out in the end.
