By Andrew Schnebel--This week’s Collegian Reporter athlete of the week goes to Garret Ehlers. Ehlers, a senior from Ida Grove, Iowa, broke the school record for the men’s indoor 3000-meter run with a time of 8:40.63 At the Dordt Indoor Invitational.
The Mustangs finished first, second and third in the event. The previous record was by former Mustang/Chief Bret Taber who set the record back in 1993 with a time of 8:41.30. This was Ehlers’ first indoor school record; he holds two outdoor school records. One of those records is the 3000-meter steeplechase, and the other the 10,000-meter.
It was the first indoor meet on the season for the Mustangs. They will travel to Wayne, Nebraska this weekend for the Wayne State Invitational, which takes place January 24-25.
