Mustangs go 2-1 in Morningside Invitational

by CR Staff– The softball season is well underway. Despite the weather and the change of
location the Mustangs started off their season with 2 wins over spring break in
Bethany, Oklahoma. They defeated Southwestern Christian 7-2 in the first game and
13-6 in the second.

The Mustangs then traveled to Chickasha, Oklahoma to take on Science &
Arts of Oklahoma. Unfortunately Morningside fell short in both games, losing 5-
3 and 4-2. From there the team traveled to Kansas for match-ups against Bethany,
Tabor, and Kansas Wesleyan. The Mustangs came out of the tournament, which was
cut short due to weather, with 1 win and 2 losses. Since then the team has traveled
again to Kansas and come back with 4 more wins under their belt.

The Morningside Invitational Softball Tournament took place here in Sioux
City on Friday, March 29. The Mustangs started off the tournament with a win
against Dakota State, 8-0. They carried that victory with them into their second
game of the day against Valley City State and came out on top, 1-0. Then they took
on Mayville State in a tough battle but fell short, losing 3-0.

The Morningside softball team’s current record is 9-6. The Mustangs will be
in action on their home field Thursday, April 4, for a double header against
Northwestern at 3pm.

Jacey Tomhave, a sophomore third baseman said, “We have a good team this year.
I’m excited about the season and can’t wait to finally get back on our home field for
