Spikers lose to Northwestern

By Paige Potter–
The Morningside volleyball team fell in four games to Northwestern Wednesday night, October 24. Their overall record moved to 14-12, 5-8 in the GPAC.

The Red Raiders took the first two sets within the match. Morningside rallied to come away with the win in set number three, only to fall short again in set four.  Northwestern was on their toes most of the game and Morningside seemed as if they were never able to catch up.

The two teams met back in September with almost the same outcome, only they took the match to a full five games.  In this match up Northwestern won the first two, Morningside won the second two, and Northwestern won the last one to walk away with the victory.

During Wednesday night’s performance, both teams had a few big performers pull through.  For Northwestern, Kaitlin Floerchinger led her team with kills at 15 followed by Karlie Schut with 11 and Jaci Moret with nine.

Maggie Vondrak led the Mustangs with 15 kills as well.  Briana Schaeuble had 13 and Gabi French had eight kills.

Both teams’ setters had an all right night as well, averaging .283 for the Red Raiders and .324 for the Mustangs. There were some serving errors, which hurt both teams at times.

It seemed that both teams fought very hard during the matchup but in the end Northwestern pulled away with the win. Catch Morningside volleyball’s last home game on Tuesday night, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Allee Gymnasium.
