Mustang Football recognized at Musketeers hockey game

The Mustangs took the opportunity to take a photo on the ice after the game with the Musketeers, showing the community in Sioux City and the success of both teams this year.

by Bryce Griffin–The Sioux City Musketeers invited the Morningside Mustangs football team to their game on January 28 against the Sioux Falls Stampede. The team was recognized for its 2021 National Championship victory over Grand View 38-28 in Durham, North Carolina. 

The Mustangs were recognized on the ice during the first intermission. The Musketeers interviewed Tyler Wingert, the defensive player of the week for the GPAC’s last vote. Wingert was also named to the 2021 AFCA / NAIA All-American first team and AP Little All-American teams first team.

The Mustangs brought and showed off all three of their National Championship trophies from the past four years. The team joined the Musketeers after the game signing autographs for fans.

The Mustangs were present for a 7-4 Musketeer victory over their rivals, the Sioux Falls Stampede. The Mustangs took the opportunity to take a photo on the ice after the game with the Musketeers, showing the community in Sioux City and the success of both teams this year.

The Musketeers are 21-11-3-1 this year and are currently in second place in the USHL Western Conference with 26 games remaining in their regular season; 12 of those 26 games are at home. The next Musketeers home games are this weekend against the Lincoln Stars Friday, February 11 at 7:05 pm, and against the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday, February 12, at 6:05 pm.

The Musketeers will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, April 23 for a Whiteout, Fan Appreciation night, the white jersey raffle and a post-game skate.
