Club plans trip to the Big Apple

By Iandra Estupinian – Spring break is one of the best times of the year for college students to go home, catch up on some sleep, or binge–watch a new show on Netflix or Hulu.

Other students decide that a trip out of town is exactly what they need. You know, getting to see some new sights, try new foods, and make college memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Morningside Photo Club has sided with the second option and is going to a place that never sleeps, has great pizza, and is the location of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade… you guessed it, New York City.

Five members and the advisor of Photo Club, Dolie Thompson, will be going to New York from March 7-11 and spending a majority of their trip in upper Manhattan.

The objective of the trip is to visit the annual Armory Show, an art fair that aims to display art from the 20th to the 21st century. The members will spend an entire day looking at galleries, art exhibits, and listening to artists. The end goal of visiting the show is to learn about how photography and other forms of art have changed and contributed to the idea of art today.

The mission of the Morningside Photo Club is to offer members a chance to have an experiential learning opportunity outside of the classroom, to help enhance their photographic skills. This said, members will be able to spend the rest of their week exploring the big city and taking photographs to bring back to Morningside College.
