Morningside business student and men’s soccer player, Jonas Markfoged, pictured in “the lab” as a part of his road to recovery. As evident in the picture, he has braces on both of his knees as he recently had surgery on both knees. He is still early in his recovery journey, so he is only able and allowed to work-out his upper body at the moment. Throughout his journey to recovery, he will be spending the most of his hours in the gym, his laboratory to better health.

Isaac Gould-Monsegue on the job at the Spoonholder Café, he is in the process of making me a pink drink. Isaac doesn’t just serve wonderful beverages to his customers, he makes sure to serve everyone with a smile and a good time too.

This is my girlfriend, Agnes Garder. Like me, Agnes is an international student and she has therefore gotten the chance to do her OPT, which gives her permission to work in the US for a year. Here she is waiting for the bus, as it is the only way she can get to her work. She is working at the non-profit, Mary J. Treglia Community House, which is located in downtown Sioux City. Her passion is to help the people who need it the most, which says all you need to know about her. This picture beautifully, visually describes a beautiful girl (literally and figuratively), in a not so beautiful setting, going out of her own way to help make the world a better place.

This picture is taken inside of the Eppley Auditorium building at Morningside University. This is from the main entrance/lobby to the auditorium, which if you haven’t been, is a long corridor with big glass windows which can be seen in the picture. The corner from where this picture is taken, is my favorite ‘cozy’ place at the university. The furniture being three different colors seems off, but at the same time just right, it fits the aesthetic of the place perfectly, same with the ball-lamps. It is a really clean and simple layout, which is what makes it elegant.

As someone who isn’t from here, the one thing that has stood out to me since my arrival is the sunsets. My favorite part of the night here in Sioux City, is when the sun is setting, transitioning from day to night. I think most people would agree with me, that sunsets does not get much more beautiful than the ones here in the Siouxland area, and this picture is therefore my take on ‘Siouxland by Night’.

Everything in this picture is on purpose. The location, the colors, the pose, everything. The outfit aesthetic is ‘casual streetwear’, and it therefore fits in a kinda ‘dirty’ setting in front of the vending machines. The picture being black/white highlights the clothes well; The texture of the grey hoodie, the quality and fit of the black pants, and the texture of the grey and white sneakers. The pose also highlights the best of each item; shows the back-print on the hoodie, the fit of the pants, and the size and texture on the sneakers. The outfit: Fear of God Essentials hoodie, Lululemon pants, Puma sneakers. All high quality and expensive pieces of clothing, put together for a simple and clean look.

The beautiful Buhler Outdoor Performance Center at Morningside University in the winter weather. A piece of architecture that isn’t as appreciated as it deserves to be; the glass backdrop, stone monument, and the wooden roof with the curved beams truly is stunning.

This picture is from Texas Roadhouse here in Sioux City, one of my favorite restaurants here in town. As you most likely know, it is hard to photograph food to make it look appetizing and edible. Because of that, I wanted to experiment with it, in terms of getting people (myself) to have a role in the picture. Here you can feel the anticipation of the person to eat the food based on the pose and the angle of the picture. In the end, the anticipation was met with a wonderfully tasting meal, better than it looked.

Going on walks has been a massive part in my day-to-day here at Morningside. I go on walks daily as it helps me stay healthy physically, but more importantly mentally. I tend to use it as a form of meditation, but not all the time. Majority of the time though, it’s just me and my thoughts, thinking about everything from the day ahead, to whatever my mind thinks about, accepting my thoughts. This has helped me have a clear mind, and to take on each day’s work, both homework and physical training.

“Finding harmony in the rhythm of the game”. This picture is taken during warmup for my first game in Division 1 Soccer, in New York City against St. John’s University. We ended up winning 1-0 in front of a sold out crowd of 2,500. Welcome to the big stage.
First step to go to Hy-Vee is to put on your best shoes, so that you can be comfortable on the walk there. Here is my girlfriend and partner for this walk, Agnes Garder, putting on HER best shoes.
#2
On the picture, Agnes Garder, is now ready to go out the door and start the walk, after putting on her shoes. As visible on the picture, she is in good spirits and excited to get going. Let’s get it started!
#3
From the house where she lives, it is basically a straight walk all the way with only one obstacle, crossing this big road. Here, Agnes is waiting patiently to cross the road, pressing the button to make sure the signal turns green.
#4
25 minutes later, WE MADE IT!! Agnes and I have arrived and can now proceed to go in and buy the things we came for, and maybe a little extra spontaneous stuff according to Agnes…
#5
Here, Agnes is in her element packing the things we ended up buying, she LOVES organizing stuff, so I gladly let her pack. We (Agnes) only ended up buying 2 extra things that we didn’t plan to get, so I am happy with that.
#6
Here, Agnes is once again pressing the button to cross the big road, this time going the other way, after we successfully went to Hy-Vee and acquired our goods.
#7
25 minutes later, and we made it home! Agnes is happy to have made it home, as she started to get a little hot during the walk, so now she can get inside and cool-down and unpack our things.
#8
Last step is now unpacking our things, which once again, Agnes LOVES doing, so I once again gladly let her do it. Oats was the number 1 priority item to get on this trip to Hy-Vee, so as you can see, Agnes is very happy to have gotten some, so she can enjoy her daily portion of Oatmeal once again. Thank you for following along, until next time!
Since I always sleep at my girlfriends house off-campus, the first thing I do in my day is follow her to the busstop, as she has to get to work. Here she is, Agnes Garder, waiting for the bus.

I love being active and working out, so I tend to start off my day by getting in a workout. On this day, I was accompanied by my teammate and fellow Morningside student, Jonas Markfoged. I am helping him stay accountable during his rehab process, after having had two major surgeries on both his knees.

Every morning, I will go to the library to get a head start on my day and the week. I always start off by checking the stock market, as I am into trading. I will then proceed to do whatever homework I might have for the day or the week. As seen in the picture, I have some essentials with me to help me “get in my zone”. My water bottle, a coffee, my headphones, lip balm, and hand lotion. I always bring my cap with me as well, in case of my hair not being the way I want it to be.

Working hard in the classroom and working out, it is important to fuel your body and mind right. I believe a lot in eating healthy to be the best version of yourself. On the plate there is chicken, cauliflower, carrots, red pepper, green beans, chickpeas, and potatoes. My drink of choice is sparkling water. I never try to make my plate look appetizing, I put my energy into making the content of the plate the best for me and my body.

A big part of my day-to-day here at Morningside, is of course going to class. I typically go straight from the cafeteria to class, as it fits my schedule the best. This picture is from my business capstone class, “Business Strategy”. This has been a really good and interesting class, glad it will be my final business class.

An integral part of my experience here at Morningside is connecting with friends. At the Spoonholder Cafe I can combine getting a delicious beverage, while also talking to friends as I have plenty of friends working there. On the picture is my good friend, teammate, fellow Morningside student, Isaac Gould-Monsegue. We both enjoy each others company, so it is always nice when I stop by. Here he is in the midst of making me the “pink drink”, one of my favorites.

Another integral part of my day-to-day at Morningside, is being a part of the men’s soccer team. With soccer being the main reason of coming to the US, it has arguably been the most important aspect of my Morningside experience. I have learned a lot being a part of a great team, winning the conference, qualifying for the national tournament twice, as well as personally receiving all-conference first team honors, and being named captain of the team. I am forever grateful to Morningside Soccer.

Attending other sports has been a very fun part about attending Morningside. With Morningside being a small school, it was important for me to attend and support other sports as much as I could. My favorite sports to attend was volleyball and basketball, as the atmosphere would always be good. This picture is from a men’s volleyball game, which they unfortunately lost despite having an impressive season this year.

Last but not least, my girlfriend, fellow Morningside student, Agnes Garder. Meeting her at Morningside my freshman year, she has arguably been the main reason as to why I decided to come back to Morningside for my senior year. Whatever highs and lows I might’ve gone through, I could always count on her being right there for me. We have been together now for 3,5 years, and I am forever grateful that she was such an integral part of experience here at Morningside, and that Morningside was the place to bring us together.
This is a loud sound, the dreaded fire alarm. It’s a students worst nightmare to get woken up by this sound at 4AM on a cold night in January, or any night or day really. The famous campus squirrel. Whenever you walk, you’ll hear them rattle around either in the trees or around on the ground. The American flag blowing in the wind by Lewis Hall. The sound of wind is a critical part of the Morningside experience.
This picture means a lot to me. AAC Champions. The emotions I felt in this moment was indescribable as I achieved something I had worked incredibly hard for. Leaving all my friends and girlfriend behind at Morningside after having spent two years there, to transfer to Florida International University, an enormous D1 school in Miami, FL. No one believed I could and I was being called everything from ‘lucky’ to ‘not good enough’ and ‘stupid’. Not only being a part of a top 10 D1 program, but playing and contributing to winning the most prestigious soccer conference in the country, was everything that I knew I was capable of. This was a moment that proved a lot of people wrong, but most importantly I proved myself right.
