After a life changing accident in his freshmen year of college, the life of Alex Watters was turned upside down. However, his will to enjoy his life and have a successful career could be taken away.
Alex is a student advisor and career development specialist at Morningside College. Before his 6 years at MC, Watters was involved in local and national politics. He was a field organizer for president Obama’s campaign in 2012 and animated people to vote, together with his team. He was one of the most successful field organizers of the successful campaign, regardless of his disability.
Michelle Obama and former vice president and presidential candidate Joe Biden are some of the relations he has from his time as an employee of Obama and his time in in Washington D.C, where he used to have an internship. After his college degree, Alex went to the capitol to intern for the US Department of Education. He had a chance to work together with Bernie sanders during that time.
After moving back to Iowa, he was offered a Job by Morningside Colleges president John Rynders to be part of the, in 2013 built, Krone Advising Center. Rynders wanted him alongside Lillian Lopez to be one of the advisors for students at the college. Alex was hired to help underclassmen with school issues and support them with finding a career path.” Seeing students succeed’ in every aspect of their life is the most fulfilling part of his job, Alex told us.
His political engagement did not come to an end after his time in Washington. After not getting elected as a border supervisor, Alex won the election to become one of the city councils of Sioux City.
