Fungal Meningitis Outbreak

Sickness and death has spread due to a fungal infection found in contaminated steroids.  Four deaths have been reported and 22 separate cases of illness. Several of the illnesses are severe causing clinics to close and/ or stop giving injections. The infection seems to be coming from contaminated vials of a pain treatment injected directly in the spine.  The drug is called methylprednisolone acetate. The steroid has been recalled but is not totally to blame. Health officials are checking other steroids and materials used to inject the steroids. Everyone that has received this steroid has been told to watch for symptoms and be checked out immediately if symptoms begin.

This is very newsworthy. People all around the states need to be aware of this outbreak.  The cases may be found in only a couple states but the steroid could be used anywhere, or the materials used could be found in many clinics.  Meningitis is very dangerous and people need to watch out for themselves and anyone they know that seems to have certain symptoms.

Nicely done, Natalie. The number of clinics who may have used the tainted drugs keeps spreading, and people need to know.
