Are you ready for some “Are you ready for some football”-less football?

News Comment for 10/6Story here.

Thanks to comments made by Hank Williams Jr. on Fox News, ESPN and Williams have parted ways, signalling the end to Monday Night Football’s theme song. “Are you ready for some football” has been the opening to the big Monday night game for years, but comments comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler was enough for ESPN to pull the plug on the intro for this past Monday night’s game, but it has now severed the tie for good.

Hank Williams Jr. compared President Obama’s golf game with House Speaker John Boehner to Adolf Hitler playing golf with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. That comment on Fox News was enough for ESPN to make this change.

While watching the Colbert Report Tuesday night, I realized that without William’s weekly proclamation of some Monday Night Football, America may now be “dangerously unprepared” for some football. Here’s the video describing the incident from the desk of Stephen Colbert.

Do you agree with ESPN’s decision to axe this notable theme song? Was Williams’ right to free speech impaired? I’m curious as to what you think.

Its a sad thing really. The same thing happened to Megan Fox, the super hot girl from the first two transformers movies. She made a comment that the director Michael Bay was like Hitler and she got booted off instantly and she was replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Though Rosie is a very attractive female, she just doesn’t have the size of assets that Megan Fox does. And I feel like throughout the third movie, they kept trying to take jabs at Miss. Fox and boost up Miss. Huntington-Whiteley. Anyways your this has very little to do with your post so i will get back on track. Hank Williams will be thoroughly missed. I remember watching him as far back as kindergarten when my dad would let me stay up and watch the whole first half MNF while making my mom believe that my brothers and I were in bed by the end of the first quarter. It was the same routine every Monday, a can of cream soda, MNF, and the thought that I was being a rebel and sneaking around my mom. Once again I am off topic so I will get back on track and finish by saying this. I will miss Hank Williams just like I missed Megan Fox. Unfortunately ESPN will probably go in a different direction with their next MNF introduction. They will probably go with a good looking woman like NBC has done with Faith Hill in her Sunday Night Football introduction.

I can’t imagine many people make a strong link between Hank and MNF. He’s just that dude in the sunglasses. And from ABC’s perspective, do you really want viewers thinking every Monday, “Hey, there’s that guy that thinks Hitler is the president.”

Actually it’s ESPN, but I agree, they wouldn’t want to be associated with someone making a comment like this. But it’s hard to watch MNF and not at least thinking about the theme song. Everybody knows it. Now if Monday Night Football was on Fox News, they might just let Hank commentate the entire game.
