Reflection on Article #1

The part of the paper that I put the most effort into was the research. I love Peleton and to hear what was happening with the company was socking to me. I wish I spent more time on the in depth analysis of the situation. I read over what was going on but I think I could have dug a bit deeper into the situation.

The most difficult part of this paper was organizing my thoughts on paper. I always seem to struggle with this but I am improving and working on being better at this.

The biggest problem that I encountered while writing this paper was trying to get the links put into my word press site. I never did fix this issue but I figured out how to embed the files to make it easier to view my sources.

Scavenger hunt- THE WILDERNESS MUST BE EXPLORED!!!

I met some interesting characters today. The first individual was named Marone. He is a Brazilian soccer player and came to the US for an opportunity in college.

His favorite movie is Shutter Island staring Leonardo DiCaprio. He doesn’t follow movie quotes a lot but he enjoys listening to motivational speakers and interacting with soccer players.

Unfortunately, when I asked him what he had in his pockets there was no pocket lint. Instead he pulled out his phone, wallet, headphones, and some chapstick.

The second person I talked to was named Josey. She is a junior at Morningside and is on the swim team. Her favorite tv show at the moment is the prequel to Game of Thrones called ‘House of Dragons’. She didn’t have a quote from this show but instead she loves a quote form the movie ‘UP’. “The wilderness must be explored!” she stated. I laughed because it is a very famous quote now.

I commented on her jeans and asked if she had anything in them of value. She took out her phone, wallet, and keys. I then said, “Is there any pocket lint in there?” She didn’t know how to react to this statement, but laughed and reached back in and pulled out a string from her back pocket.

We then proceeded to talk about her major and the Mass Com Department. She is studying journalism and says that she loves Ross’ class.

“Fire up the Horses”

Suspected arson fire on horse stable leaving 15 horses dead.

Around four o’clock this morning, one day before the opening of racing season, a fire erupted inside the stables hosting 25 horses. Ten horses did escape.

One of the jockeys that was on site mourned the horses stating, “That’s my best friends.” and “I love horses more than I do people. I feel like I want to cry.”

Jim Connery, fire chief, had this to say. “The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were
shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious.”

Article #1- Peloton $1.2 Billion downhill ride

Riding a bike was so fun as a child. We never thought of it as a workout or something we had to do. We just did it. As you’re an adult now you might have heard of Peloton. The stationary bike that allows your to interactively ride anywhere in the world. They are now facing a $1.2 Billion loss in their past quarter of 2022.

For Peloton what does this mean? Both of their founders, John Foley and Hisao Kushi, have put in their resignation letters to the board. The New York Times informed us that John loves Peloton and that he will continue to use the product. He loved his time working at Peloton.

During COVID, Peloton exploded. They had their highest sales and their best year in the stock market. The issue that arose was the supply chain. Since people had such a high demand for the bikes at home, Peloton had increased their production. However, when people started to go back to gyms, Peloton had a lot of inventory that was sitting around. People also stopped using the bikes which meant no recurring revenue.

According to their website, you can pay $39 per month to use the bike with their workout programs and instruction. This small amount of money compared to a gym membership is do-able for some people. However, $1.2 Billion of loss in a quarter is what is causing Peloton to ride downhill. According to Yahoo Finance, COVID enabled their stock to reach $167 per share. Now the stock is trading at $11 per share.

Peloton is bringing new members onto the board and shifting their teams to attempt to make a change for their customers.

The Tech Empire in China is being shaken!

Due to supply chain issues, big companies such as Apple and Google have moved their smartphone production from China to India and Vietnam. This comes after COVID and production had a tremendous decrease over the past two years. The shift is also a response to growing concerns about the geopolitical tensions and pandemic-induced supply chain disruptions that have involved China in the last few years.

This is news becuase it is relevant and impactful to all of us consumers of Apple, Samsung, and Google. These big tech companies are shifting where there product is made which may affect the price and could also affect the features that are capable within the devices. We don’t know yet…

What to do to be successful during the Recession

“You’re one decision, one new deal, one relationship, one encounter, one meeting, one podcast, one book, one thought, one new emotion from completely changing your freakin’ life.”

The countries financial stability is seeing a decrease. With that, there are some things that you can do. The first thing that you need to start out with is your goals. Figure out what you as an individual want to do and the direction you want to head in. Then you need to incorporate focus. Focusing on those goals and taking action to achieve them are what bring results. That means you need to dedicate as much time and effort you can to the things that will make your life better.

Because people are afraid of the real estate market right now, you need to be different. Don’t follow them down the rabbit hole. Instead, seek opportunity where others don’t. Understanding the psychological factors in this coming market will allow you to remain calm and come out on top.

Utilizing the power of one more.

When you are trying your best to overcome something or change something about yourself, the power of one more is amazing. Shift your focus to be on achieving one more of something. One more day of sobriety, one more real estate deal, one more family dinner. The longer you keep it up, the easier it becomes with consistency. “When you attach your identity to something external, you’re really risking it.” Become the person you want to be by not following the crowd. Be different and realize that the opportunity of a recession can allow you to do that.

Welcome to Wades World

Wade Micheal Canaday is from Marshal town Iowa. The town only consists of 25 thousand people and do you know what he wants to do? Wade wants to work for Fisher Controls. Fisher is a company back in his hometown that manufactures valves for plumbing and other jobs. When asked “What is your plan with your Girlfriend after college”, Wade responded with, “I don’t know”. However, he also stated that he wants to stay with his girlfriend and they are planning on getting married… hopefully.

Wade also is a baseball player at Morningside University. He loves the sport, but this is his final call. After this year, Wade will be hanging up the jersey and heading into a new chapter of his life. His favorite memory playing baseball was his first colligate game. “I stepped into the batters box, and I hit a homerun in my first at bat as a college baseball player.”

Wade also wants to travel to Los Angeles and New York. He thinks he sees himself living in one of the two states because of their beauty and faster pace of life. If that were to happen, he would look for a new job and start, yet again, another chapter of his life. “What would you do in Los Angeles” I asked. Wade responded “I want to do touristy stuff and drive around. Find new things and explore a different area of the country. I love mountains so I will be staring at those a lot”. In Wades World, trademark pending, he is more of a city person. I second that idea and I am very excited to see his life after college.
