The article was about how a US appeals court ruled that the NSA’s surveillance program that Edward Snowden exposed was, in fact, illegal. It talked more about Snowden’s and other parties’ reactions to the ruling rather than the whole case itself. The lead was good and the article is short and to the point, assuming the reader at the very least knows basic details about the incident. It is newsworthy as when the original story broke it was a big deal and it’s now getting some sort of conclusion/closure, at least for the time being. It also hopefully sets a precedent for the future in cases of widespread spying on an unknowing public. The audience for the story would probably be US citizens who care about their privacy (though I personally feel that the average person is much too unremarkable for the NSA to worry about them enough to spy on them) or just really anybody who would find this sort of story interesting.
