A black student at Barbers Hill High School spent more than two weeks of in school-suspension for wearing dreadlocks to school. 17 year old George was in tears when he was suspended on Aug. 31. He was initially suspended because his state outlawed racial discrimination based on hairstyles. School officials say his dreadlocks fell below his eye brows and ear lobed which violate the districts dress code.

This incident impacted many students and struck so many debates.

At Moreno Valley Unified School District a 13 year old boy dies after two classmate’s assault him during lunch. Juana and Felipe Salcedo sued the school after the death of there son in 2019. Juana and Felipe became his guardians after his parents death.

Diego died a few days after one of the students punched him during school hours. Attorney Gehlawat and Dave Ring said “He fell and hit his head on a concrete pillar”. While he was on the ground another student jumped in and punched him. Video was released by the attorneys of Diego clearly stating he did not want to fight and did not want to situation to escalate. The video shows clear footage of both boys assaulting Diego. He was then rushed to a hospital for a traumatic brain injury and was also placed on life support.

In the article it states “The two teenagers involved, who were 14 at the time, entered the equivalent of guilty pleas in juvenile court to involuntary manslaughter and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, The Associated Press reported. They spent 47 days in juvenile custody and were ordered to undergo anger management therapy.”

The case was settled Wednesday September 13th.

Diego’s guardians stated that he has had a long history of bullying on school grounds. In the lawsuit they claimed the district of failing to enact effective safety procedures to protect the students.

A security guard from Utica New York was shot in the back of the head while breaking up a fight outside a high school football game. The security guard was hospitalized from Proctor High School due to his critical and stable condition and is expected to make full recover due to the article. Outside the stadium parking lot at least two security guards were involved to stop the altercation when shots were fired. The 16 year old teen subject was arrested for second-degree attempted murder. The teen identity cannot be released due to his age. He is also no longer a student at the high school and is enrolled in an alternative education program.

The Ban Of Radar Guns

East Dakota Highway patrol ordered ban of hand-held radar guns yesterday. The ban of 70 radar guns that will be withdrawn from service. State troopers will continue to use radar units with transmitters mounted on the outside of their cruisers.

Concerns that troopers could develop cancer from longterm exposure to the radiation waves emitted by the devices. The ban was ordered as a precaution while studies are conducted into the possible links between cancer and the use of such guns.

Adam Smith states “The feeling here is to err on the side of caution until more is known about the issue” “The whole situation is under review”. The move is to be considered the first of its kind by a state police agency

Native American Boarding School System

Thousands of Native American children are being sent to boarding schools around the country. This began in the early 19th century where many children were forcibly removed from their homes. Most of these children were beaten and forced to do hard labor. Some also never returned back to their families. Hundreds are known to have died as well. This article does a very good job getting the point out. It had a bunch of pictures and news article that attracted my attention.

Her brother plays basketball in Belgium and her sister plays volleyball. Isabel is a business major and a minor marketing and sports management. She is also part of the Morningside Woman Soccer team. Fun fact is that she’s been part of the Fifa fan experience panel in Switzerland. If she were not to play soccer she would play volleyball or basketball.
