Lead Exercise

A stable fire leaves 15 horses dead and has officials wondering what the cause could be.

Around 4 o’clock this morning, a fire sprouted in the middle of a one story barn the the Norfolk Downs Race Track in Chicago. Of the 25 horses that were kept in the barn, only ten managed to escape the scene, additionally leaving 2 of those horses with fires on their backs as they tried to escape.

Dan Bucci, assistant general manager of the track, says that the fire could have been, “an incendiary nature because it started in the middle of the barn, not at the end.” He also stated that, “The only heaters and electrical outlets were in the tack rooms at the ends of the barns.”

Fire Chief Jim Connery agreed with Bucci statements and added that, “The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious.”
