Panthers Caught Among U of Virginia Tragedy – Article #4 Anecdote
It’s not everyday that you get caught in the midst of tragedy. Ryan Schmidt was traveling and preparing to film the University of Northern Iowa men’s basketball team as they would take on University of Virginia for an exciting matchup. The Panthers were in their hotel rooms, getting mentally ready for the evening game against the Cavaliers, when tragedy struck Virginia’s campus.
Schmidt said, “Something happened on [Virginia’s] campus, and all we were told was that we had to stay in our hotel rooms.”
The team was staying at Holiday Inn, just a couple of minutes away from campus. Which was close enough that the hotel had to lockdown until the shooter was apprehended.
